The old tom cat curiously watched his humans' neighbors a few homes away. He sat gingerly on the fence, watching human kits play in a pond of water he was sure was called a "pool". Their large, noisy dog barked and joined them in excitement. There were humans and kits with the neighbors he did not recognize, drinking out of strange-shaped objects and wearing funny-looking apparel over their eyes and heads. Too bad he didn't like water much, whatever they were doing looked fun.
He recalled the recent Winter in which he and his friends played around in the cold snow and bugged different houses. He hadn't seen any of them since then, and he worried that something might have happened. He'd lost friends before at his humans' old home, especially the day they moved here.
His train of thought was interrupted by another loud bark from the dog. A light breeze hit his face and he looked down into his humans' garden where flowers were beginning to bloom. He began to pace along the fence, looking around for his friends in hope that they'd be outside in this nice weather. Maybe they could play again.
Boo darted out of the open screen door, she had just escaped the grasp of her owner's new foster pet, a rather annoying and yappy mutt. The dog had been bothering her since the first time her owners got it. She pawed at the long grass, shouldn't the owner's cut this by now? she thought with a disgust look still on her face. She batted the tall grass some more and then quickly marched over towards the fence gate. She wanted to go see how her friends had been doing since the winter.
The black cat jumped on top of the fence and continued the trend carefully across it. She didn't want to end up falling into some small two-leg pool like last time, when she decided to walk across the fence while after rolling around in catnip. I gotta stop rolling it! It makes me feel all loopy she reminded herself. She squinted, focusing on finding where S'mores had lived, now where did he live again? she asked herself.
S'mores' ears twitched at the sound of grass rustling. He turned his head to the direction of the sound's origin and saw a black cat leap onto the fence. Boo! He thought, but maybe he should have said the young molly's name out loud as he could see the younger cat looking in the wrong direction.
He made his way across the fence towards the other housecat. "Boo!" he yelled out, though not quite loudly enough. "Boo!" He was happy to see his friend was alive and well, he fondly recalled getting along well with the sassy and mischievous cat. He asked with a bit of a purr, "How've you been?"
Boo's eyes brighten up, "Hey S'mores," she purred back a greeting to the tom, "I've been better, my twolegs decided to get an annoying dog." She turned her head to the direction of her house. She frowned as the small mutt darted through the yard barking wildly. "Let me tell ya, that thing is more annoying than a small twoleg," she stated, "I never thought that anything would be more annoying than a small twoleg, that dog has topped my list. So enough about me, how have you been." She was quite eager to caught with her friends, since after all it's months since Boo saw him.
"Better. Well, since last Winter, anyway, although I'm sad because I haven't seen any friends since then," S'mores replied with sorrow, before catching himself. "Uh, I mean, except you, of course. Just a few minutes ago I hadn't seen anyone else." He felt sympathy for Boo, she had to live with annoying younger Humans and dogs. "My Humans are older and won't get anymore animals, which is great. Well, they did have a black cat a long time ago, but he's gone now." he had mixed feelings on the death of his Humans' other cat, on one hand he didn't like him but on the other it's always sad to see anyone die. "Hmm, what should we do today? Should we look for other friends? Maybe play in someone's garden?"
