Character information[/u]
Name: Rooktail
Age (in moons): 38
Gender: Male
Allegiance: MarshClan deputy
Appearance: ( X )
Rooktail is a large and all black Manx breed cat. His stump tail is a genetic trait for his breed, but it does hinder his balance. His eyes are a piercing yellow and shine like flashlights in the light. His fur is fairly long and matted on the end of his tail from lack of care. Rooktail also has a scar on his side, hidden by his fur.
Personality: First rule of talking to Rooktail, do not mention his tail. He can get aggressive if you make fun of his and will definitely hold a grudge against the cat that decided to make a comment. Although his outer image can be cold and judging, catch his in the right mood and you could have a light hearted talk about anything. The problems the clan has run into this Leaf-Bare have made him more strict than usual. Get on his good side and he’ll do anything for you.
History: When Rooktail was born from cats who both had tails, there was a thought that something was wrong with him. Unbeknown to anyone in the Clan, one of his grandparents from both side of the family had been Manx breed and the trait had skipped a generation. As Rookkit had trouble playing with the other kits, Rookpaw had the same problem. His missing tail had become more than just an uncommon trait. His battle training was rough and it took him longer than others to rise to a warrior.
As the newest warrior Rooktail wasn’t exactly treated well. He wasn’t bullied except for the occasional comment about his tail, but his hindered movements certainly put a damper on things. As an apprentice he had learned how to get around his handicap and do the things that the other cats did just as well, but there were still some things he couldn’t do. He can’t wipe away his paw prints in the snow as he walks, he can’t show emotions as clearly as the others, he can’t stay in a tree as long as anyone else could (if they even climbed trees in MarshClan). He tries to keep in his feelings of resentment toward himself for his faults but sometimes he can get out of hand.
Rooktail was always a loyal, trusting, and hard-working warrior. He always looked up to the cats of higher rank than him and aspired to have their approval. That was one trait that never left from his apprenticeship. When Rooktail was assigned his first apprentice he made sure to teach the cat not to rely on their tail. He instilled in the young one that if something should happen in battle and you no longer have use of your tail then it shouldn’t be a problem. If his apprentice succeeded in knocking Rooktail over, Rooktail would execute a fancy move to retaliate as he stood back up. He made it clear that he was at no one’s mercy just because of his “disability”.
When the MarshClan leader lost their last life in battle, Applefall rose to Applestar after a visit to the Mooncave. Despite the loss of their leader, the clan was excited to see who the new deputy would be. As the tension grew, Rooktail kept looking around at the other warriors and tried to guess who would be the best one to choose for the job. Quailface was a skilled hunter, but so was Foxwhisker. Addertail and Heronstream were good choices too, so it surprised him greatly when his own name was called to be the deputy. “The new deputy of MarshClan will be Rooktail!” He followed through with the ceremony, was congratulated by the other warriors, and went to sleep that night feeling a mixture of pride in himself, and anxiety for the new responsibility.
