Character information
Name:Beetlekit Beetlepaw Beetlenose Beetlestar
Age (in moons): 36 moons
Gender: Tom
Allegiance: SandClan
Appearance: A skinny, small black tom, Beetlestar has bright amber eyes and the shaggiest pelt in his Clan. His long whiskers are always twitching, looking for danger at every turn. He can often be seen lashing his whip-like tail in agitation and frustration. He is smaller than most cats even in his own Clan. His narrow face always has an expression of fear and anxiety and his black nose is often flared in irritation.
Personality: Beetlestar is an extremely anxious sort. He always had been, but the current leaf-bare is making his problems worse. He is constantly hovering over his Clan watching their every move. He is an extremely controlling leader because he feels very out of control, especially right now.
Beetlestar is an extremely no-nonsense sort of leader, and rebellious apprentices are sent straight to him to get the fur scared off of them. He often gives long and at times unnecessary punishments for the sake of control over his Clan. He does not allow anyone, not even his own deputy, to question his authority. In his mind, he is the absolute ruler over his Clan, and he must keep them in line. If a SandClan cat breaks the warrior code, he sees it as a personal affront and failure.
History:
Beetlekit
The youngest of four, Beetlekit was always the kit that the queens would gossip about when they thought he was sleeping. They constantly whispered how surprised they were that he made it to see the next day and the day after that because of his size. Beetlekit began to become very nervous at that age, fearfully ducking from any percieved danger. His siblings use to tease him for being so frightful, but when a horrid case of greencough plagued the nursery, he was the only kit to miraculously survive. Now feeling abandoned by even StarClan at that age, Beetlekit vowed never to trust the kind words of other cats, and only do what his gut told him to do.
Beetlepaw
As an apprentice, Beetlepaw was extremely attentive, following his mentor wherever he went. Thankfully for his mentor, she had to be sent to the nursery as she was going to be kitting. And his mentor after her. And even the mentor after that one. There were whispers that his mentors were purposely getting pregnant so they wouldn't have to mentor him anymore because he was such a nosy brat. As such, Beetlepaw became a huge control freak, demanding to know where his mentor was at all times.
After finally getting a tom for a mentor, Beetlepaw finally felt that he would be able to finish his training. He learned very quickly, even if he was as bratty and nosy as he was before. Beetlepaw got his warrior name at 11 moons, if only just to get him out of his mentor's fur.
Beetlenose
If there was one thing Beetlenose's need for control helped, it was being hyper-aware of everything around him. He could find anything in the forest, and as such was considered an extremely good tracker. He obsessed over every sniff he could get his nose on in the sand pit, and was able to tell exactly whose pawprints were whose just by looking at them.
This helped him greatly when three lost kittens wandered out of the SandClan nursery in the middle of the night. Rushed out of the warriors' den, Beetlenose went right to work sniffing away for the kits. The little fluffballs had managed to find their way to Fourbanks all by themselves, and by some sheer stroke of luck, he was able to keep them all safe from drowning. He refused to let the kits out of his sight the entire way back home, and the warriors with him realized he actually wasn't a horrible cat after all.
Beetlenose certainly got more respect after that night. The elders claimed that he showed a lot of maturity, and the kits all looked up to him like the Clan's greatest hero. In truth, it all made Beetlenose nervous and jittery, now feeling like he had to live up to these great expectations. He was soon given an apprentice of his own, Dustpaw.
Beetlenose was a good mentor to Dustpaw, but a harsh one. He would drill Dustpaw over and over again on techniques until he was certain the young cat had mastered it. Dustpaw recieved his warrior name late, at about 15 moons, but was given the name Dustclaw for his excellent fighting skills that he had learned under Beetlenose's strict mentoring. Beetlenose had never been more proud in his life.
Unfortunately for Beetlenose, his pride was short-lived. One hot greenleaf, Dustclaw had gone out hunting on his own and didn't come back for hours. When SandClan went looking for him, they were met by a sorrowful MarshClan patrol carrying his soggy body. Dustclaw had chased a rabbit onto their territory and fallen in the river. The young warrior had gotten stuck in a current and, unable to pull himself free, drowned miserably. This pulled out the weaker side of Beetlenose, who begged the cats of SandClan to let him carry the body back to camp. Heaving Dustclaw's corpse onto his back, Beetlenose finally understood what it meant to have the weight of a Clan on one's shoulders.
Beetlenose acted much more like a senior warrior at that time, and the Clan noticed. He could not bring himself to mentor another apprentice, but one was enough for the old leader to choose him as the new deputy of SandClan when the old one retired. Though Beetlenose had never thought himself much of a leader, he graciously accepted the position, and fought to serve his Clan as best he could.
Beetlestar
As a young leader, Beetlestar didn't really know what to do with himself. He had tried to learn everything the previous leader had taught him, but still felt that he was never truly meant for leadership. He often mistakes control for loyalty, and is quite the hard-nose on his Clan. Still, he believes himself to be fully responsible for all their lives, and assures himself that the only reason he places so many rules on them is so that they can all be safe.
